Wednesday 25th April - last date to register for a 'proxy' vote
30 March 2007
Proxy vote
A proxy vote is when you nominate someone else to vote for you. You may chose to do this because it will be easier for someone else to vote in person than for you. However, it should always be someone you trust to vote the way you've told them to vote for you - not the way they think you should vote!
To register to vote by proxy, you need to fill in the correct form and return it to your local electoral registration office - contact details available here.
Note that, if you want to register for a proxy postal vote - ie. for someone to vote for you by post - the deadline is the same as for other postal votes - Wednesday 18th April.
- Note that you can request an emergency proxy vote up to 5pm if something prevents you from voting in person on polling day - contact your local electoral registration office.
There is more information on registering to vote by proxy on the Electoral Commission website.
